Fexofenadine and Pseudoephedrine Combination

November 12th 2006 04:03
Fexofenadine and Pseudoephedrine Combination :
Fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine combination is used to treat the symptoms of an allergic response, including sneezing, runny nose, itching, and tearing. Fexofenadine belongs to a group of drugs known as antihistamines, which act by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical that is released by the body during an allergic reaction.

Interactions :
Fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine combination may interact with a number of other drugs:

The medication may interfere with the blood-pressure-lowering effects of reserpine and methyldopa.

This medication may decrease the actions of digoxin or of digitalis.

Treatment :
Fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine combination should be taken on an empty stomach. However, to avoid stomach irritation, you may take this medication with food or milk (unless your doctor directs you to do otherwise).

Side Effects :
Minor: Anxiety, back pain, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, heartburn, nausea, painful menstruation, sore throat, stomach pain, stomach upset, or unusual tiredness. These side effects should diminish or disappear as your body adjusts to the medication.

Dry mouth can be relieved by chewing sugarless gum or sucking on hard candy.

Major: Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or particularly bothersome.

Interactions :
This medication may decrease the actions of digoxin or of digitalis

Erythromycin, clarithromycin, ketoconazole, or itraconazole may increase the amount of fexofenadine (an ingredient in this medication) in the body, increasing the risk of side effects from it.

Serious side effects may occur if a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, pargyline, phenelzine, procarbazine, or tranylcypromine) is taken with this medication. At least 14 days should separate the use of this medication and the use of an MAO inhibitor.

Use of over-the-counter (nonprescription) cough, cold, or allergy medications may increase the side effects of this medication and should be avoided.
Warnings :
Be sure to tell your doctor about any unusual or allergic reactions you have had to any medications, including fexofenadine, terfenadine, pseudoephedrine, other antihistamines, decongestants, or diet pills.

Tell your doctor about any medical problems you may have, especially heart disease, kidney problems, glaucoma, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems, enlarged prostate, or difficulty urinating.

Before starting fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine combination, tell your doctor if you now have or ever had asthma.
